Discover the innovative active ingredients for sensitive skin and scalp from our spanish supplier ANTALGENICS, S.L.!

This biotechnological company is specialized in the development of active molecules from the research field for dermocosmetic applications.
Their innovations in the domain of sensory neurobiology and pain transduction have allowed them to develop high performance raw materials.

Sensitive skin market:

Sensitive skin is a condition characterized by stinging, burning and itching sensations. In the last years, studies on its epidemiology have been performed, showing a high prevalence and impact on quality of life. (…) Cosmetics, climate changes and skin barrier impairment are the main factors that contribute for skin hyperreactivity. [1]

Product innovation trends expect the ‘for sensitive skin’ claim to show further gains across the globe in major Asian, European and US skincare markets as outbreaks of COVID-19 continue through 2020-21. In addition, the number of patent families describing sensitive skincare cosmetic compositions reached 122 in 2019, with the vast majority of granted patents in South Korea.

Consumers’ perceived skin sensitivity will increase, driven by a rise in daily stressors that can kick off or worsen inflammatory skin conditions (eg eczema, rosacea). Consumers will seek out new compositions to block the external triggers that cause inflammatory flare-ups and will be drawn to those that calm or soothe. Sensitive skin users (…) will want to be confident that the active ingredients are effective and especially that they do no harm.  [2]

The sensitive skin care market is projected to record a CAGR of 11.35% during the forecast period (2020-2025). High prevalence of sensitive skin syndrome, (…), makes it one of the most lucrative market for skin care brands. [3]

Nowadays, sensitive skin and itch are major concerns:

Sensitive skin affects 50-60% of men and 60-70% of women around the world, while itch affects 85% of them.

For this type of skin, the use of cosmetics products is more complicated due to unpleasant sensory effects with their use.

The common signs of sensitive skin:

    • Impaired skin barrier function
    • Neurogenic inflammation
    • Itch

To act against those signs ANTALGENICS, S.L., created Calmapsin® specifically designed for sensitive skin.

Coming from Capsaicin, this novel molecule acts as TRPV1 receptor antagonist. As TRPV1 activation triggers itching, burning and increases oxidative stress, Calmapsin® can reduce these discomforts at their origin.

This active molecule also serves as protective barrier against irritant agents and reduces itch sensation.

In addition, Calmapsin® maintains and protects the barrier function and the hydration by reducing transepidermic water loss. It also increases hydration of sensitive and atopic tendency skin, even on intense sensitive conditions.

Finally, oxidative stress damages DNA, cell structures and promotes aging. Calmapsin® reduces reactive oxidative stress molecules at a lower concentration than the reference: ascorbic acid.

Sensitive skin is not the only concern of the supplier, ANTALGENICS, S.L. also looked into the case of scalp, and developed Capsisilence® to improve scalp care.

The scalp is the most sensitive area of the body and itchy scalp, and dandruff are a common issue in the population.

Common facts about sensitive scalp and dandruff:

    • Sensory neurons in the scalp are responsible for initiating itchiness.
    • These neurons are also involved in neurogenic inflammation, redness, and irritation of the scalp.
    • Itchiness leads to scratching, increasing scalp desquamation and dandruff appearance.

As Calmapsin®, Capsisilence® acts as sensory neuron antagonist reducing itch signals from its origin.

This molecule calms and reduces itch sensation and the routine use of it, protects against the resurgence of itching.

It also helps decreasing inflammation and scalp redness even after the end of the application.

In addition, Capsisilence® decreases the desquamation and reduces dandruff level during and after use. By reducing inflammation and increasing corneodermosomal junctions, it holds the corneocytes of the outermost layer of the scalp together, reducing their flaking.

Thanks to their deep study of the skin as a complex system, ANTALGENICS, S.L. developed two high-performance neurocosmetic ingredients. They are in vivo and in vitro tested and are designed to act efficiently on the skin’s nervous system of sensitive skin and scalp.
