What is collagen? 

Collagen covers a vast family of proteins, essentially in the form of fibers, present in the extracellular matrix of many organisms. The role of these proteins is to give tissues mechanical resistance to stretching. They are the most predominant proteins in the human organism, as well as in the animal kingdom as a whole, accounting for almost a quarter of total protein mass.

Fibroblasts, specialized connective tissue cells, secrete collagen, with a molecular weight of around 300 k Da.

There is no single type of collagen, but more than 28 different types, each with a specific structure and function in the human body. The most widespread collagenss are I, II and III. They play key roles in the structure and function of body tissues.

Here are the main types of collagen and their functions:

          • Type I collagen is present in skin, bone, tendons and certain organs. It is the most abundant. In the skin, type I collagen is essential for maintaining skin firmness, elasticity and texture. It helps prevent sagging and wrinkles by maintaining the skin’s structure.
          • Type II collagen is found in cartilage and the structural tissues of the eyes. Its main role is to confer strength, elasticity and cushioning to joints. It acts as a protective cushion, enabling joints to move smoothly while absorbing shocks.
          • Type III collagen is found in muscles and blood vessel walls. It ensures the structure, elasticity and mechanical resistance of connective tissue.
          • Type IV collagen is found in most internal organs. It forms an essential part of the basement membrane, a structure that separates cell layers in epithelial tissues, contributing to tissue support and cohesion.
          • Type V collagen is involved in the formation of collagen fibrils and plays a supporting role in various connective tissues, often in association with Type I collagen.
          • Type XVII collagen is present in skin and mucous membranes. It plays a role in cell adhesion and tissue cohesion, as well as in keratinocyte differentiation and hair follicle stem cell regeneration.

In synergy with hyaluronic acid, collagens present in the skin maintain cellular hydration, elasticity and regeneration, resulting in plumped, bounced and smooth skin. However, from the age of 25 onwards, collagen concentration gradually declines as fibroblasts become less resistant, leading to the first signs of aging. After the age of 40, this decline accelerates and collagen quality diminishes. Visible signs include a slackening of the facial oval and the appearance of wrinkles.

Constituting the extracellular matrix (ECM), ‍type III collagen is a structural protein providing space for cell growth with a supportive function. Type III collagen plays an important role in skin elasticity and hydration, as well as in healing and anti-aging.

Produced by biological fermentation, SRHC TYPE III has been selected from highly bioactive fragments of the amino acid sequence of natural human type III collagen. 100% homologous to human collagen, SRHC TYPE III has the same amino acid sequence and specific functional region as human collagen, ensuring excellent biocompatibility.

SRHC TYPE XVII – INCI : sr-(Decapeptide-63 sh-Polypeptide-148 Hexapeptide-40)

‍Type XVII collagen is a transmembrane protein, playing an important role in keratinocyte differentiation and hair follicle stem cell regeneration.

‍SRHC TYPE XVII optimizes the highly bioactive amino acid sequence of natural human type XVII collagen by biological fermentation. Type XVII acts as a hair follicle growth source to provide a stable environment for hair follicle stem cells. Stimulating the self-replication of hair follicle stem cells, it helps maintain a normal metabolic cycle in hair follicles and prevent hair follicle and skin aging.

Are the different grades objectified?

TRAUTEC’s recombinant collagen grades have been tested in-vitro and in-vivo.

SRHC TYPE III was tested on volunteers at 0.2% in a full-face cream for 28 days. Elasticity and the number of wrinkles were measured at 2 and 4 weeks of use.

The number of fine lines and wrinkles is considerably reduced after 28 days of use, and the skin is plumper.

In-vitro efficacy tests were carried out on skin repair capacity, anti-wrinkle effect and soothing effect. These show that from 0.2% upwards, the benefits of recombinant collagen are significant.

Only tested in-vitro, MINI-RECOL™ shows the same benefits as SRHC TYPE III at a lower percentage of use. Tests were carried out at 0.05 and 0.1%. It significantly increases the concentration of collagens (I and III) present in the skin.

SRHC TYPE XVII was tested on volunteers at 0.3% in a serum on the scalp for 12 weeks. Hair density and hair growth were measured before use, at 4 weeks and at 12 weeks.

SRHC TYPE XVII has been compared with Minoxidil, a product on the pharmaceutical market. With its superior efficacy, SRHC TYPE XVII reduces hair loss to a greater extent, helping to achieve greater hair density, growth and diameter.

In-vitro tests were also carried out on the effects of SRHC TYPE XVII on epidermal, dermal and dermal papilla cells. Results showed that it promotes hair follicle development and the health of their stem cells.
